In the patch 10.1.5, Blizzard released a new iteration of the Naxxramas raid. It brought back some old recipes into the game as well as returning materials to craft them. On top of that, you could get the original tier 3 sets which were removed from the game ( apart from the black market auction house ). Today, I want to show you how great this farm is now and for years to come!

My goal was to see how much time it would take me to reach 1 million gold from strictly running Naxxramas. I also wanted to break down how each part of the goldmaking is made. How much from raw gold, materials, tier 3 pieces, transmog, patterns and more.

It took me 66 runs to reach my goal. I finished with an extra 70000 gold and many unsold items. The gold per run would be 16214. Since runs would take me about 20 minutes to complete, it would bring the gold per hour to 48642. This challenge was done in the America region and prices would fluctuate considerably. It took a total of 22 hours.

Luck would have a huge impact on the challenge as it involved opening containers. I wouldn’t consider my runs to be very lucky when I compare it to data from other players. That being said, there are some sales from patterns and transmog that some wouldn’t consider selling. You can decide for yourself what is worth selling and what isn’t.

My route

When I did my runs, I would kill 12 of the 15 bosses. The skipped bosses would be Kel’thuzad, Gothik and the four horsemen. The reasoning behind it was efficiency. Both Gothik and Kel’thuzad are 5 minute fights. As for the four horsemens, they are locked behind Gothik. Skipping those 3 bosses would save me at least 10 minutes. Seemed very worth it to me but might not be for you.

Each boss drops a token. You can purchase a dented gear piece with 3 tokens. The dented pieces are little chests that may contain a lamented gear item when opened. Each lamented item is worth around 100 000 gold and sells pretty quickly. Lamented gear is what players need to create the tier 3 armor set.

Since I got 12 tokens per run, that would turn into 4 dented gear pieces. In 66 runs or 264 containers, I got 4 lamented pieces. In other words, 1 lamented piece for every 16.5 runs or 1 for every 66 dented gear tokens. Your results may vary massively. Looking at the data from other players, I haven’t been lucky or unlucky.

Strategy with dented leggings

You can buy each type of dented piece from each gear slot ( except rings, neck and trinket ). I decided to buy leggings only. The reasoning behind it was transmog sales. Most of the time, dented pieces contain a piece of transmog from the original game. Since leggings have some of the best items for value, I only opened those. If you don’t want to sell the transmog, You can scan the auction house for the most expensive lamented piece and then buy the dented tokens associated with said piece.

I tried to kill the trash that was on the way. This is how I got a lot of wartorn scraps and raw gold. As for the frozen runes, I made my own route. Some of the runes were very far away from the route. It didn’t feel worth it to get out of my way. To know the frozen runes locations, I used the module of the addon handy notes called “Handynotes_NaxxFrozenRunes”.

Unlocking the farm

This farm needs to be unlocked. Method made a very nice post on how to get access which you can check by clicking this text.

This farm is on a weekly lockout. It’s usually a good idea for raw gold to set it on 25 man heroic. You can do it on as many characters as you want. Since I made roughly 16000 gold per run, doing it on 10 characters could get you roughly 160000 gold. You don’t need to be level 70 to clear the raid. A level 60 should suffice and possibly an even lower level character.

A lot of people have been doing this farm with multiple accounts. You can make your other accounts follow your main character and you don’t need to loot since the loot will go in the mailbox ( only the loot from bosses will go to the mailbox ). Doing it this way, your gold per hour can go much higher than 48000! Since no software is used to facilitate the process of running multiple accounts, it is not against Blizzard’s tos.

Still good in the future

Now comes the time of speculation. Currently, lots of players are doing Naxxramas. Not that many but still, plenty of people. I want to ask you a question. Do you think that more or less players will be doing this farm in the next 2 years? I would personally answer that less people will do this as they will be busy with newer farms. Furthermore, we can ask ourselves if tier 3 items continue selling like they are today? On this one, I would say that it would probably drop slightly but not that much. Tier 3 items are still very much in demand. There will also be a lot of returning players who were not there during Dragonflight who want these sets.

With my answers, it tells me one thing. Supply will go down as demand will stay similar or slightly lower. With that information in mind, it means that the price will either stay the same for years to come or perhaps increase. Obviously, if there is inflation or deflation, the price should follow that line. Nevertheless, I think we can safely say that Naxxramas is great now and should be great in the future.

Other way to use tokens

There is an alternative way to use your tokens. As mentioned before, you can get a dented piece of gear for 3 tokens. With 12 tokens, you can buy a random recipe. The tsm regionsaleavg price of recipes are between 5000 and 15000 gold. They are posted for more but on average, they sell for close to that price. We could say that each token is worth somewhere between 500 and 1200 gold depending on what recipe you get.

So how much are we getting per token for the dented gear? As mentioned earlier, I get 16000 gold per run but that includes raw gold, materials and transmog. If you only sell the lamented pieces, that would be 475000 gold divided by the number of runs which is 66. That would be about 7200 gold. Since we get 12 tokens per run, that would bring the gold per token to 600.

However, if you are selling the transmog, we got a total of roughly 792000 gold which we divide by 66 to get roughly 12000 gold. Since we get 12 tokens per run, that would be 1000 gold per token. Since it’s quite close, how do we decide how we spend our tokens?!

Lamented pieces have a really good sale rate. Recipes and transmog don’t. I assume that people who don’t sell the transmog probably don’t want to sell the recipes either since they have a similar sale rate. Regardless of the route you take, the gold should be similar but the dented tokens will have a better sale rate. My results were made with leggings and prices should change a lot in the future. With that in mind, the best thing to do today might not remain the best thing to do in the future. In a year or two, make sure to check the prices of everything to make sure you aren’t missing out! I could also see frozen runes and wartorn scraps massively vary in terms of pricing.

There is also an argument for purchasing recipes for power users. If you already have tons of lamented pieces, you could consider buying some recipes for variety purposes. In other words, your auction house would be more diverse which can bring more sales.

Naxxramas is a powerful farm now and will be in the future. As the game gets older, there are a lot of forgotten farms. As new farms get all the attention, I could see Naxxramas becoming huge for the ones who are aware of its existence.
