First month of TWW : 19+ million gold profit
Technically, I consider I've made about 35 million gold in profit from the crafts but there is a lot that goes into the data. Check it out!
GOLDMAKINGNEWESTFEATUREDWAR WITHIN
At the end of dragonflight, the amount of gold I would earn was not very satisfying. Nothing was new and it was mostly about grinding. I was still able to earn 87 million gold in the last year of Dragonflight, as shown in this article. Before we continue, I want to answer a question that is asked way too much in my opinion. No, it’s not too late to start goldmaking. It also won’t be too late a year into the expansion. In my last week, I’ve made over 40 million gold in sales (sales, not profit. Profit was about 9 million). With those numbers, it’s definitely not too late!
My plans for the war within changed as soon as the launch happened. You can make a lot of speculation in the beta but as far as speculation goes, you don’t know the price of materials! Reagent crafting was so good that everything else in my plan made no sense at all. When you can make 200 000 gold per hour, you don’t really look around to try to make more than that!
Many players rejoiced from gathering being good again! I’d like to praise the new thaumaturgy system (Thaumaturgy is a new mechanic for alchemists). Thaumaturgy makes every ore and herb relevant. This was not the case in Dragonflight!
Everything is expensive right now. If you make a 10% profit margin as a crafter, you can usually make over 70 000 gold per hour from non-stop crafting. In many situations, I craft at a gold per hour rate above 300 000 (I only craft these items for a few minutes but if I was doing it for an hour, 300 000 would be the profit). On the other hand, I feel bad for raiders who pay so much gold for their supplies!
What isn’t included in this data report
In the data presented here, a few things are missing. It’s very hard to show how much I spent to level my crafters. I would often pay 10 000 gold for a knowledge point at the start. I also went into professions that were a waste of time and gold (for now) as I barely use them.
On top of that, I can’t really include my current crafts that are on the auction house. I would estimate them at around 5 million gold but it changes every hour from sales and purchases. I’ll try to keep each craft separated for better clarity.
The data
I play on the NA region. The data was calculated with the addon journalator.
You could say that I removed 6 390 785 gold from the economy this month! I didn’t put details on every item sold since it’s already been a ton of work to get the basic estimations. The process of how I did my calculations will be shown later in the article. From now on, you may expect one of these data report each month!
Profession equipment
Profession equipment was part of my strategy from the start. However, there were so many good ways to make gold that I mostly missed out. I was still able to make 4.4 million gold profit from a small investment of time and that was great! I only did equipment for inscription, engineering and tailoring. 85% of the sales were on my main realm and the other 15% was on my side realms. Here are my top 3 items:
Crafting rank 2 reagents with rank 1 mats
Without going too far in the details since I already did it in this article, reagent crafting was my number 1 goldmaking method (and still is). It’s completely ridiculous to see the mountains of gold that can be earned from non-stop crafting! Here are my top items from 3 different professions:
It was hard to calculate the exact profit. I looked at my average buy price and used the “price override” tool in the craftsim addon. I also entered my average sell price for reagents. I then checked the margins. For bismuth bolts, I had a 37% profit margin. I multiplied my total sales by 0.37 to see my profit. This is not precise. However, it gives a good idea of the potential from reagent crafting.
Make sure to take advantage of the spreadsheet below to calculate your gold per hour when crafting reagents. Keep in mind that this is an average profit and not a guaranteed profit! Click on the image below to open the spreadsheet!
Missives
This market caught me by surprise. I crafted rank 2 missives with rank 2 materials. Somehow, that was massively profitable. There were times where I could make over 2000 average gold per craft. This market is not for everyone. You need to constantly post as it gets undercutted quickly. However, the sale rate is extremely high. Here are my sales and profit from my top 3 missives:
Embellishments
The first few embellishments that caught my eye were the engineering ones. The profit margins were immense and the sale rate was medium. Engineering was good but nothing compared to jewelcrafting. This is where I found my number 1 item of the whole month. Technically, some items made more profit. This embellishment was simply the highest gold per craft.
You get the captured starlight recipe from a vendor for 150 acuity. Another amazing embellishment from jewelcrafting was the elemental focusing lens. Obtained from the same knowledge spent from the previous embellishment, this one has an incredible sale rate. Profit was lower but it just keeps selling non stop.
In comparison to other professions, the jewelcrafting ones are the easiest. To guarantee rank 3, you’ll need every equipment piece at blue quality (unless you have the draenei racial which gives +5 skill to jewelcrafting. If you do, you'll need the tool and 1 accessory to be blue quality). You only need 45 knowledge points. That being said, getting the setup requires a lot of artisan acuity which brings me to my next point.
As this question was asked by many players, I’d like to give my take on the artisan acuity shuffle. For the people who don’t know what that is, it’s the process of profession switching to gain as much acuity as possible. I didn’t do it whatsoever. It’s unfun and doesn’t feel right. Do you make more gold from doing it? Yes… I’ll let each of you have your opinion on this and move on. However, I think that this article proves that it’s definitely not required.
Here is the gold made from my top 3 embellishments:
Concentration and alt army
I did not make much gold from this but I thought it was something that should be mentioned. I currently only have 10 characters with war within professions. My main crafters needed so much attention that I didn’t get the time to utilize my alts. I also really don’t enjoy the alt army gameplay.
Currently, it seems possible in both regions to get over 20 gold per point of concentration spent (sometimes over 50 gold). Since you get 240 concentration per day, you can make 4800 gold per day, per profession, multiplied by as many alts as you have. Two professions on 20 alts would give you 192 000 gold profit per day.
Enchanting and alchemy have great ways to achieve that. Tailoring also offers passive gold from the dawnweave and duskweave bolts. However, you need a really solid build to get decent profit with tailoring. If you are looking for builds for alt armies and reagent crafting, you can currently get 3 builds on my patreon! More builds will be coming each week!
The future looks bright!
My play time should go down from 6 hours a day to 4 hours a day which is my usual amount. Considering I played 180 hours last month, it means I roughly gained 108 000 gold per hour played. If I can maintain these numbers and play for 120 hours next month, I should expect to gain about 13 million gold. Will I be able to maintain the pace?
