GOLDMAKINGWAR WITHIN
The war within finally arrived and today, I’ll dump a ton of information that can make a real difference on your goldmaking. If you don’t understand some of the mechanics in here, make sure to ask your questions in the “goldmaking questions” section of my discord. If you think more tips should be included in here, make sure to share them in discord as well! If I think it’s worth mentioning, I’ll credit you and update the article! You might see some addons that I don’t mention too much. In my next article, I will cover goldmaking addons. If you don’t want to miss it, sign up to the newsletter!
1- Get the one time bag
In Dornogal, there is a one time quest for a bag containing reagents. It also contains 350 artisan acuity. Since acuity is essential for progression, it’s a huge bonus. In the image above, you’ll see the location. The materials in the bag are currently worth about 4000 gold.
2- Profession tools
The profit window is from the craftsim addon.
Profession tools have a main stat that can vary. I personally have multiple tools for my profession crafters. When you craft gear or enchants, multicraft doesn’t apply. This is why resourcefulness is the best stat in this case. When you craft gear with concentration, ingenuity becomes the best tool to have. When an item can multicraft, a multicraft tool becomes the best tool. Make sure to use the correct tool for the job. Looking at the image above, you’ll see the difference in profit.
3- Speaking of profession tools…
Profession tools can be enchanted. You can use crafting speed, resourcefulness or ingenuity for crafters while gatherers can use deftness, perception or finesse. Enchants have ranks and can be pricey. Lower ranks can be somewhat affordable and totally worth getting.
4- Where to get profession equipment
The best way to obtain equipment is from the auction house. However, some realms have people like me who jacks up the prices ( sorry about that ). With the new warbank system, you can insert gold in your warbank, retrieve the gold on any realm and buy equipment where it’s cheap! In the image above, you can see the saddlebagexchange.com website. In the shopping list section, you can enter an item and it will find the cheapest realm to buy it! Make sure to enter your region in the top right corner.
5- Get a character to level 80
If you play multiple characters, it’s essential to level your main to level 80. Not only will you get a 5% account wide experience buff, you will also unlock “adventure mode”. Adventure mode scales all the zones for all of your other toons and that’s very important for our next point.
6- Profession treasures
You can get 8 different profession treasures for each profession. Each treasure gives you 3 knowledge points. Without adventure mode, it can be hard to reach those treasures on low level characters. Make sure to have both professions chosen before going out to hunt them. I like to use the addon handy notes to find the treasures. You will need the “war within module” and the “war within treasures and rares module” which are separate addons.
7- Kej knowledge
You can get 10 knowledge points in exchange for 565 kej which is a Azj-kahet currency. This works for every profession. To farm kej, you can do side quests in the zone. You can get a bit from zone treasures and wax treasures as well. Kej is transferable so if you have some on an alts, you can send it to your current character.
8- Other knowledge
Crafting an item for the first time gives you 1 knowledge point. These can really add up. You can filter your professions for “first crafts”. It makes it easy to identify uncrafted items. First crafts also give you character experience which is a nice bonus for leveling.
9- Knowledge books
Next to the npc from the one time quest in the first tip of this article, there is a vendor that sells knowledge books in exchange for artisan acuity. The 3 books are 200, 300 and 400 artisan acuity and are one time purchases. When you use them, you get 50 artisan acuity back. You may not need them early as we’ll see in the next point.
10- Treatises
You can send a work order for a “profession treatise”. A treatise can give you one knowledge point and is repeatable every week. You can use them on both professions.
11- Don’t use your knowledge unless…
Knowledge points cannot be refunded. After the first few sources of knowledge, it becomes extremely difficult to get more knowledge. You need to be very careful about how you spend it. This is why I have a question that I ask myself before spending any knowledge points. Will I make gold from spending these points? If so, how much gold? If I don’t earn gold from spending knowledge points, why would I use them? With everything being very volatile right now, some builds won’t be profitable in a week. If you don’t make gold from spending knowledge, don’t spend knowledge! Same thing goes for spending artisan acuity.
12- Use some concentration
You get 10 concentration every hour. If you are capped at 1000, you lose 10 concentration every hour. Therefore, as soon as you can find a craft that benefits from using a small amount of concentration, you should do it! Concentration can be extremely profitable to use. Always look for opportunities to spend it, especially if you are capped!
13- Finding recipes
In the profession interface, there is a tooltip on every unlearned recipe. If you hover the text, it will give you information on how to get the recipe. Sometimes, it’s not very precise and you might need to go to a website like wowhead.
14- Profession consumables
There are a few different profession consumables that you can use. I’m sure that I don’t know them all but here are a few that might be interesting:
Phial of enhanced ambidexterity : Increase crafting speed and deftness by 5% to 15% depending on the rank
Phial of concentrated ingenuity : Increase your ingenuity by 84 or more depending on rank
Phial of truesight : Increase perception by 75 or more depending on rank. It also allows you to see nodes that are invisible to others. ( thanks to u/vadered on reddit )
Phial of bountiful seasons : Increase finesse or resourcefulness by 84 or more depending on rank. The buff changes with the season which I don’t understand. Let me know in my discord if you do or if you know about more consumables!
Ironclaw razorstones: Increase finesse by 45 or more depending on rank
15- Finishing reagents
There are a lot of different finishing reagents. Some will reduce the amount of concentration used while others will give you an extra buff. It can make a huge difference in your profit. Especially if you are using concentration!
16- Profession specific buffs
Some professions have a specific buff for a certain period of time. Keep in mind that you need to have specced into the buffs to get them. Here are some of the ones I could find:
Alchemist potion and flask spillovers: Buff specific to crafting flasks or potions.
Engineering inventing: Get a buff for 12 hours after using the invent ability.
Enchanter shattered essence: Get a 5 minute buff on stats after shattering an essence.
Blacksmith everburning ignition: Ignite the forge to get a buff.
If you find more buffs, again, let me know in the discord!
17- Be aware of baiters
A lot of people are trying to snipe your items for cheap by listing them at a much lower price. Always check carefully before posting. The auctionator addon can be great to prevent that. It will show you a prompt if the items are being listed for too little.
18- Auction house favorites
Items on the auction house have a gray star on the right side of the items. If you click on it, it will become yellow and it will now be in your favorites list. Whenever you open the auction house, your favorite items will show up!
19- If you don’t have much gold, don’t go into crafting ( yet )
Now, you don’t have to listen to this tip if you really want to start crafting. However, I want to make it clear that leveling professions and getting to the profitable builds is extremely expensive right now. It might be a great idea to start with gathering or even fishing to get some capital before going into so much spending. If you already started crafting, make sure to check out the next tip
20- Don’t switch professions
This tip doesn’t apply to everyone. However, I see many players switching from one profession to the other with the same character. Nowadays, most wow players have multiple characters. Do yourself a favor and keep your professions if you have the option to use another level 70 or 80 character. Everything is expensive at the moment so wasting time and items can be costly! The build that you chose might not be profitable right now but it doesn’t mean it will stay like this with how volatile the market is.
21- Buy a contract on reset
A contract lasts for a full reset. The best time to get them is on the weekly reset. For a rank 3 contract, you get 15 reputation for each world quest done. Make sure to not spend too much on those. It’s a nice boost but it might not be worth spending 10000 gold on a contract. Rank 12 renown grants 10 profession knowledge. This 10 knowledge can be bought by every character in your warband! The reputation needed will depend on the profession.
22- Stay calm
Everyone will lose out on tons of opportunities. There just isn’t enough time. Don’t be too hard on yourself for missing out on some of the ways to make gold. There will be tons of gold to be made in the next few months. Patience and serenity can go a long way. Don’t forget to enjoy the moment and have fun in the process. That’s what it’s all about!
